about

This EP cassingle was recorded at home in Toronto, Ont. and Denver, Colo. in late summer 2021. Thanks, Duncan for lending me the bass. Jeremy Goody mixed it in Oakland, Calif., and Josh Stevenson mastered it in Vancouver, BC. The samples on “Hindoo” and “Squeezing” come from the fight scene in the 1977 Kannada movie “Giri Kanye.” The samples on “Another” come from a Columbia Records (Special South Indian) 78rpm disc performed by inimitable “Buffoon” Shanmugam. 1, 2 written by Chandan. 3 is our take on a song by Watt and Kira (originally found as “Number 4” on the first DOS album on New Alliance, and later reinterpreted as “A.T.S.T.S” but with words on “Ragin’, Full-On” by fIREHOSE). 3 also appears on Zum Audio Vol. 4 (zumaudio.bandcamp.com/track/number-4-a-t-s-t-s)

All the money from this goes to the Scarborough Food Security Initiative (scarboroughfoodsecurityinitiative.com/home)

This is Branch Dravidian Records 003.

released March 4, 2022

The Hagström guitars and bass, Fender Bass VI, no-name acoustic guitar, sarangi, and shruti box were played by Chandan. The drums and all the wild percussion instruments were played by Ryan Jewell. Brody West played the saxophone part on “Hindoo”.

Chandan designed the tape art to look like a 1960s National Geographic. Be mesmerized by the Orient!
